The Embodied Interaction Course was video-recorded once before, which was actually the first time it ran (so bear with me). Since then, the course changed considerably (and so did my hair), but if you want, you can still have a look at these video’s, of which the audio quality is sometimes quite bad, for which, as for all of my hair styles so far, my apologies: See: via https://vimeo.com

I now describe what ‘tangible interaction’ means, summarize the overarching framework and present the Embodied Interaction theme. The following sections deal with the concepts relevant to embodied interaction and design guidelines derived, illustrated by examples. I conclude on open questions and related work.

This volume will be a point of reference for future research on multimodality in human communication and action. Jürgen Streeck is Associate Professor of Communication Studies, Anthropology, and make us refrain from it. Tangible interaction systems provide virtual and physical structure - they truly embody facilitation. Three concepts further refine the theme: Embodied Constraints, Multiple Access Points and Tailored Representations. These are broken down into design guidelines and each illustrated with examples. Introduction 26:21 S2: So I see a lot of potential in using dance as a test bed for embodied intelligence and mental decision-making, maybe not necessarily for artistic purposes, but also for a couple, because there’s a lot of dance practices that are not just about beauty of the form and aesthetics but actually about really intelligent decision-making with your body in real time, with a lot of inspiration from the martial arts, for example… The idea of Embodied Interaction reflects a number of recent trends that have emerged in the area of Human-Computer Interaction.

Embodied interaction is therefore an active process of practical meaning-making (semiosis) occurring in an exo-semiotic field inevitably informed by power relations.Through the body we perform, express, and present subjectivity to others. Yet, through the same activities, others also judge our body as object by means of appearance and performance.

In this book, Paul Dourish addresses the philosophical bases of human-computer interaction. He looks at how what he calls "embodied interaction"—an approach to The fact that players hold the cubes, SmartLink letter tiles, in their hands and manipulate and arrange them with their fingers makes this a good example of embodied and tangible interaction.

Example One: Fitbit One. Let’s explore this connection with an example. Several years ago I bought a Fitbit One to track my steps and sleeping. I was particularly interested in the sleep tracking feature, because I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine while I sleep. Let me set the stage for you.

However, they differ from gesture in a number of important respects. First, This last example shows an embodied way of dealing with recent memories, yet the examples and literature from psychology, HCI, philosophy, engineering and interaction design leave a lot of questions unanswered towards the application of principles from Embodied interaction to everyday remembering. A large amount of research has been done on pen-based interaction. For example, Tivoli [8], and Fluid Interaction [9] are all well-known examples.
